The sources document Odessa's historically large Jewish community and its current decline (about 35,000 members in 2022, per El Pais; about 45,000 Jews in Ukraine overall in 2023, per the Leadstories fact-check), but none addresses 'Jewish power' or whether Odessa is a centre of it.

What we found

Context. Sources show Odessa had a very large Jewish population historically, around 40 percent at its 1920s peak, but that population fell sharply, to about 45,000 remaining in the 1990s and about 35,000 members in 2022.[1][2][3]

Context. A 2023 fact-check reports the World Jewish Congress estimated Ukraine's Jewish population at about 45,000 that year, describing it as shrinking since the Russian invasion.[4]

Context. No source addresses Jewish 'power' or influence in Odessa today; the historical sources describe Jewish cultural, economic and communal influence, which is a different and non-comparable concept.[5][6]
