Privacy
What we keep, and why.
What Polygraph keeps about you, why it keeps it, and how to remove it.
Your account
You sign in with an email address. We keep it to sign you in and to send receipts.
Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your card number.
Your checks
The checks you run are private to you. Other users cannot see which links you checked.
Text you paste to check stays private to your account. It is never published, never indexed by search engines, and its claims are not shared with other users' checks.
A check becomes public only if an editor publishes it. You can ask for publication. We do not publish your name with it.
Polygraph for Chrome
The extension stores the account key you approve on polygraphs.ai in your browser, and sends it only to Polygraph. Each browser you connect gets its own key.
While its side panel is open, it sends the address of the page you are viewing — a post, an article or any other web page — to Polygraph, to find that page's check. It sees addresses only while the panel is open. On X, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit and Bluesky it also reads the address of each post in your feed (on X including the posts X loads just ahead of where you are), so it can mark the posts Polygraph has fact-checked; those addresses go to Polygraph without your key and are not stored. Those are the only sites it runs a script on.
While the panel is open, it notices text you select on the post sites, or on a page where you opened the panel from its icon, so it can offer to fact-check it; that text stays in your browser. It sends text only when you press Fact-check, choose “Check with Polygraph” from the right-click menu, or paste text into the panel yourself. A check is sent only when you press Check and confirm the price.
When your account is connected and scanning is on (a switch in its settings), it also sends the words of the posts in your feed that Polygraph has not fact-checked — a post's text or caption, a video's title, and on X the words of the post each one replies to or quotes — with your key, so Polygraph can mark the persuasion techniques they use. Never the account's name, followers or history, and never who you are beyond the key. Polygraph keeps what it found in each post, not the post's words, and shares that result between readers.
Disconnect it from the panel, or revoke its key from your account, and the key stops working at once.
Public pages
Published pages show claims, verdicts and sources. They show the public author of a public post. They do not profile people.
Children
Polygraph is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has made an account, write to us and we will delete it.
