The claim that Jews were 'the core' of the Bolsheviks in 1917 is partly supported: Jews were a large share of the party's leadership, but they were a small minority of its membership, and most Jews did not back the Bolsheviks.

What was said

… It's another way of saying that Jews have leveraged their financial power to alter the basic moral code of the societies in which they live. They were the revolutionary core. Didn't matter if it was capitalist or socialist. You know, in poor Russia, they were the core of the Bolsheviks in 1917. They were the core of the oligarchs in 1992. What we found

Contradicts. Of the 23,600 Bolshevik Party members in January 1917, only about 1,000 (4.3 percent) were Jews, so Jews were not the party's core by membership.[1][2]

Contradicts. Only a minority of Jews supported the Bolsheviks in November 1917, and most left-leaning Jews backed the Bund, the Mensheviks, or Zionist-socialist parties.[3][4]

Supports. Jews made up a quarter to a third of the Bolshevik and Social Revolutionary leadership, and Jews were a big presence in the Bolshevik leadership, about one-third of it.[1][5]

Supports. By December 1917, five of the twenty-one Communist Central Committee members were Jewish, and several top Soviet posts were held by Jews.[4]

Context. Claims that Jews dominated the early Soviet government are cited as myths; the first Soviet government had one Jewish member, Trotsky, according to JTA's review of the Moscow museum exhibit.[6]
