The sources agree that Jews were heavily overrepresented in the Hungarian Soviet Republic's leadership, but none supports 'almost 100%'. The figures range from about 66% (19 of 29 Revolutionary Governing Council members) to an estimated 45-75% of leaders, and the sources disagree on whether the commissars were Jewish.

What was said

… Marx and Engels called for this merciless terror, as Engels called it. The same thing occurred in Hungary. In that case, the party was almost 100% Jewish, and I have all the leadership names in a, in a separate paper. There were no Hungarians in the Hungarian Soviet takeover. What we found

Contradicts. The Orangefiles article cites estimates that 45 to 75 percent of the Hungarian Soviet Republic's leaders were Jews, a range that falls well short of 'almost 100%'.[1]

Contradicts. Cosmonaut Magazine states that none of the commissars were practicing Jews, which conflicts with the claim that the leadership was almost entirely Jewish, though it uses a religious-practice measure rather than ethnic origin.[2]

Supports. YIVO reports that 19 of the 29 members of the Revolutionary Governing Council were Jews, and that similar proportions held among leaders and activists in the countryside.[3]

Supports. Deák states that most leaders of the bourgeois-radical and social democratic parties were Jews, as were almost all of the People's Commissars under Béla Kun.[4]

Context. Wikipedia and the Encyclopedia MDPI entry name Béla Kun as the de facto leader and Sándor Garbai as nominal head, but neither gives an ethnic breakdown of the leadership.[5][6]
