Authoritative sources consistently describe Dzerzhinsky as born into a Polish noble family, which supports the 'from Poland' element, though he was born in the Russian Empire (now Belarus). What we found

Contradicts. Wikipedia says he was born to a Polish family of noble descent with ethnically Polish parents, and a Czech academic paper describes a Polish Catholic family, which contradicts the claim that he was Jewish.[2][3]

Contradicts. The Presidential Library describes him as born into a small noble Polish family, which does not support a Jewish identity.[4]

Supports. Reuters describes Dzerzhinsky as 'originally a Polish noble who transformed into a revolutionary.'[1]

Supports. Wikipedia and Britannica describe him as of Polish origin and the son of a Polish nobleman, born in Russian Poland / near Minsk in what is now Belarus.[2][5]

Context. GlobalSecurity states his father was 'a Jew by nationality,' but this unrated source conflicts with the authoritative sources and is not corroborated by them.[6]
