Several sources state that by the mid-16th century about 80% of the world's Jews lived in Poland, so the claim's core is supported.

A detail. The sources confirm the gist; the verdict faults a detail such as a date, number or wording.

… island of Kaffa in the Black Sea, which is a Jewish island and is where the main slave mart was, so their contempt for the Jews at the time knew no bounds, and that goes back to their very founding, um, and often, you know, there were a lot of Jews there. I think at one point 80% of the world's Jewish population was living in the Polish Empire straight up until the early 20th century, so who could be talking about Zionism in a place like this? What we found

Contradicts. The same Wikipedia timeline gives about 60% of world Jewry in Poland in 1648 and about 70% in 1750, and YIVO Encyclopedia puts Poland's share around one-third of world Jewry in 1764.[1][2]

Contradicts. L'Histoire says Poland was home to half the world's Jews by the 18th century, below the 80% figure, and the post's claim that 80% lived there 'straight up until the early 20th century' is not supported by any source.[3]

Supports. Morasha (2026) says historians estimate that by the mid-16th century about 80% of the world's Jews lived in Poland, and Facing History and a Wikipedia timeline make the same mid-16th-century 80% claim.[1][4][5]

Context. The 80% figure appears in several secondary sources without citing primary demographic records, and the YIVO chronology reports that Polish Jewry was the largest single group by the partitions, around 10% of the country's population, not the world's share.[6][7][8]
