None of the sources reports that Russian military officers said Ukrainian soldiers are buried in unmarked graves while commanders collect their pay. The closest source, an unrated Hvylya interview with a military instructor, alleges Ukrainian commanders collect pay for dead or AWOL soldiers, which is a different allegation and does not mention unmarked graves.

… But, um, um, this loss of life now, I don't know, maybe 700,000 total casualties for absolutely nothing. I've also heard reports of tens of thousands of fighting men who could be buried in unmarked graves while their commanding officers continue to collect their paychecks. Have you heard anything about that? I don't remember where. I've been on a couple of Russian language blogs from former military officers who've spoken of this. …

What we found

Context. The unrated Hvylya piece reports a military instructor's allegation that Ukrainian commanders keep collecting salaries for dead or AWOL soldiers and misrecord deaths as desertion. This is a nearby but different allegation: it concerns pay fraud, not unmarked graves, and it is not attributed to Russian officers.[2]

Context. AP reporting on Ukraine's unknown-soldier burials describes numbered crosses in a military cemetery and refrigerated storage of unidentified bodies. It does not describe unmarked graves of soldiers whose commanders collect their pay, and it does not mention Russian officers.[1][3]

Context. EDMO reports on Russian disinformation about how Ukrainian authorities treat fallen soldiers' bodies and compensation. It addresses a related narrative but does not confirm or refute reports by Russian officers about unmarked graves or unpaid-commander schemes.[4]
