The claim that Israel admits to about 500 military casualties is contradicted by the IDF's own figures, which put soldiers killed since October 7 at 970 in data released on 2026-10-07, roughly double the claimed number.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What was said

… And since when does Israel need an invasion to level an occupied territory? Last time, all they needed was a few rockets. Now they need an invasion. I think the Israeli casualties are now 2,500 or something like that, military. They're admitting something like 500 right now. There's no way Israel can occupy the Gaza Strip. There's no place for these people to go. It would be ten times worse than Northern Ireland was for the British, but the divisions among Palestinians are normal, just like in the Jewish case, and the comments …

What we found

Contradicts. The IDF released data on the Oct 7, 2026 anniversary showing 970 soldiers killed in the war since October 7, 2023, which is roughly double the 'around 500' claimed.[1][2]

Contradicts. A Jewish Virtual Library casualty summary likewise gives a total of 973 soldiers killed, including those killed inside Israel, consistent with the IDF's 970 figure.[3]

Context. An Oct 22, 2026-dated article cites Israel's military saying 281 soldiers were killed since the first ground incursions on Oct 20, a figure that conflicts with the 970 total and appears to describe an earlier phase of the war.[7]

Context. Recent post-ceasefire reporting gives only small Israeli military losses, such as four or five soldiers killed since the October 2025 truce, so the 'admitted' casualties of the claim refer to the overall war toll rather than the ceasefire period.[4][5][6]

Context. The speaker's own passage cannot corroborate the claim; the extraction keeps the post's 'something like 500' figure, which the official record does not match.
