The claim that Lula gained 10 million votes after the voting-hours extension is contradicted by Folha's analysis of TSE data, which found only about 34,300 votes were cast after the original deadline, far fewer than Lula's 4.43 million margin.

What we found

Contradicts. Folha, citing an analysis by researcher Pedro Burgos of Superior Electoral Court data, reports that only 34,300 votes were cast after the initial deadline and that the extension had no impact on the result.[3]

Context. Korea Times reports Lula gained 10.4 million additional voters compared with the first round, and that 14.1 million more people voted in the runoff than in the first round, a comparison that does not measure votes cast after the extension.[4]

Context. Reuters and AP report the Supreme Court justice extended voting by two hours at the request of Lula's campaign, and that the vote count was paused until the extended window closed, so the extension itself is confirmed.[1][2]
