What we found

Supports. Snopes (2024) reports Trump has publicly stated or implied that undocumented immigrants were voting illegally for at least a decade, including an October 2014 tweet.[1]

Supports. Boston Review reports that Kobach, a Republican, tied GOP voter-fraud claims to anti-immigrant politics and claimed voting by 'aliens' was 'pervasive' during the Obama years.[2]

Context. The New Yorker (2024) describes the claim as a long-running Trump position that had become the explicit position of the party establishment by 2024, a later development than 2015.[3]

Context. Brennan Center and Politifact-style sources show the claim was repeatedly made and examined, with actual noncitizen voting found to be extremely rare, but they do not address what Republicans said in 2015 specifically.[4][5]
