Achilles for Idaho | U.S. Senate 2026@Achilles4IdahoOct 11, 2026Jim Risch was born May 3, 1943 according to the official Congressional Biographical Directory, which makes him 83 on 2026-10-12. LegiStorm lists his age as 83 and Ballotpedia's September 2026 coverage also calls him 83.
This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.
What was said
Today, 4 Republicans and 3 Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee issued a statement telling the President that importing Russian diesel violates the law- a law even 83-year-old Jim Risch voted for in 2022. But as chair and supposed leader of this important committee, why is Risch absent from this statement? Is he losing control of his own committee? Or is he just waiting to see what benefits himself the most?
What we found
Supports. The official Bioguide entry gives James Risch's birth date as May 3, 1943, which makes him 83 on 2026-10-12.[1]
Supports. The Bioguide biography repeated on YouTube gives the same May 3, 1943 birth date.[2]
Supports. LegiStorm lists Risch's date of birth as May 3, 1943 with age 83.[3]
Supports. Ballotpedia's September 15, 2026 Daily Brew describes Risch as 83 and the oldest U.S. Senator running for re-election that year.[4]
Supports. A 2026 Idaho Press letter to the editor also describes Risch as running for reelection at 83.[5]
Contradicts. An unrated Facebook post describes Risch as 82, but it is an unreliable, older source that conflicts with the official birth date.[6]
Context. The passage's reference to a 2022 vote is not part of the extracted claim, which concerns only Risch's current age; that detail is not verified here.
