Sources support that rents rose during the pandemic-era surge and peaked around 2022, but they do not support a 25% to 35% increase under Biden. The Phoenix figures cited (about $1,450 to $1,750, roughly 20%) fall short of that range and partly predate Biden's term, and rents have fallen since the peak.

What was said

… Zero. In addition to massive crime, the Democrats' open border policy also caused skyrocketing prices, especially in Arizona. You people suffered more than anybody else with open borders. The cost of rent in Phoenix and other Arizona markets, and other markets throughout the United States, soared 25%, 35%, maybe good for landlords, because, you know, our government paid. They didn't pay anything to these people. …

What we found

Contradicts. The Valley rent rise of roughly 20% is below the claimed 25% to 35% range, and much of it occurred before January 2021, so it does not establish a Biden-era soar of that size.[3]

Contradicts. The White House reports national median rent down 6.2% from its Biden-era peak, and Phoenix rents fell 1.6% to 6.3% year over year in 2026, which runs against a continuing Biden-era soar.[1][4][5]

Supports. The Phoenix rent increase during the pandemic was large: Valley rents rose from about $1,450 to over $1,750 and peaked in August 2022.[3]

Context. A Treasury report on rent and house prices shows inflation-adjusted rents more than 20% above their 2000 level, a long-run trend that does not measure a 25% to 35% increase under Biden.[2]

Context. PolitiFact's coverage of Trump's similar claim of a 40% to 50% rent rise under Biden addresses the attribution of rent increases to illegal immigration and does not confirm the magnitude claimed here.[6]
