The sources do not support a used-car price of about $15,000 at any point in the Biden administration. They put used prices near $20,000 to $22,000 before or at the start of the period, rising to about $31,000 in mid-2022 and easing to about $27,000 by 2024 to 2026, so the claimed roughly 80% increase is grossly overstated.

What was said

… Yeah, kind of like what they did when Joe Biden was president, by opening the southern border, destroying the economy, by the way, causing the price of homes to double, the high price of vehicles to go through the ceiling, the price of a used car to go from like 15,000 to 27,000 dollars. The people of Ohio stand for you can't let that happen. This is a man who's extraordinary. Look I ran against him he was not easy. this one was not easy. He was a nasty guy. What we found

Contradicts. Truthout reports used car prices at about $22,000 in June 2020 and $31,000 in June 2022, which contradicts a $15,000 starting point.[2]

Contradicts. Edmunds puts the average used car price at $20,683 in Q3 2019, so the pre-pandemic level was already well above $15,000.[3]

Supports. Used car prices did rise sharply during the early Biden period, with PolitiFact citing federal data showing used cars up 43.3% from pre-pandemic to June 2021.[1]

Context. The current end figure of about $27,000 is consistent with recent reporting (Edmunds Q3 2024 at $27,177; Truthout at about $27,000), so the claim's endpoint is roughly right while its starting point and implied magnitude are not.[2][3]

Context. Used-car prices peaked around $31,000 in 2022 and then fell, so the increase was a partial rise followed by a decline rather than a steady climb to $27,000.[2][4]
