The Khazar state's destruction in the 960s is well documented, but every source names Sviatoslav I, Prince/Grand Prince of Kiev (Kievan Rus'), as the destroyer, not a Sultan. The claim's wrong actor makes it false; the 'Sultan' wording is the post's own, so the extraction is faithful.

What we found

Contradicts. Britannica states that in the 10th century the Khazar empire's power was crushed by Svyatoslav of Kiev, and that in 965 Svyatoslav launched the campaign that crushed Khazar power.[1]

Contradicts. Wikipedia and related encyclopedic entries identify Sviatoslav I of Kiev, ruler of Kievan Rus', as the conqueror who destroyed the Khazar state and captured Atil between 965 and 969.[2][3][4]

Supports. Multiple sources date the destruction of the Khazar state to the 960s, with the capital Atil sacked around 965 to 969.[1][5][6]

Context. No source mentions any Sultan destroying the Khazar state. The passage's 'Sultan' is an apparent slip; the same passage later credits 'Kiev' with destroying the system.
