The sources agree that Moisei Uritsky (spelled Urytsky in the claim), head of the Petrograd Cheka, was assassinated on 30 August 1918, but they identify his killer as Leonid Kannegisser, a young military cadet and poet, not a Social Revolutionary.

What was said

… So the Constitution, um, which, you know, they followed when it was in their interest, it removed the very concept of personal guilt. Now it's collective guilt and, um, collective punishment. So, uhm, the head of the Petrograd Cheka, uhm, Moses Urytsky, was killed by one of these moderate Social Revolutionaries, and Lenin was actually wounded that very same day. So that gave him the excuse to, uh, increase the level of terrorism. Any Bolshevik that killed a bunch of hostages will be automatically shot, and that was renewed again in February of 1919. …

What we found

Contradicts. Wikipedia's entry on Uritsky states he was assassinated by Leonid Kannegisser, a military cadet, who was executed shortly afterwards. No SR affiliation is given for Kannegisser.[5]

Contradicts. Crimereads describes the assassin as a young poet and officer's cadet who waited for Uritsky at Cheka headquarters, with no mention of Social Revolutionary membership.[6]

Contradicts. Multiple accounts (Jewish World Review piece, Skirda, Mental Floss, Alpha History, and Boot Camp) name Kannegisser, a cadet of the Imperial Russian Army, as the killer, with none identifying him as an SR. The Socialist Revolutionary named in these sources, Fanny Kaplan, attacked Lenin, not Uritsky.[7][8][9][10][11]

Supports. The sources confirm that Uritsky, head of the Petrograd Cheka, was killed on 30 August 1918, and that Lenin was wounded by an assassination attempt the same day, so the victim and timing match the claim.[5][6][9]

Context. The fact-checker sources returned by the search (PolitiFact, AP, Reuters, Snopes, Full Fact) contain no specific rating of this claim.[1][2][3][4][12]
