Charlie Kirk was murdered.

What we found

Supports. AP, Reuters, BBC, NPR and NBC report that Kirk was shot and killed at a Utah Valley University event on September 10, 2025.[1][2][4][5][6]

Supports. Utah Governor Spencer Cox called Kirk's death a 'political assassination,' and Britannica describes him as assassinated.[6][7]

Supports. The BBC reports a suspect, Tyler Robinson, was named and taken into custody, consistent with a criminal killing.[4]

Context. The sources describe the event as a shooting and assassination but do not quote a formal murder charge, so 'murdered' rests on the characterization of the killing as a deliberate, unlawful act.[4][6][7]

Context. Snopes, a tier1 fact-checker, refers to Kirk as 'slain' in a piece about a false rumor about his father, which is consistent with the killing being real.[3]
