What we found

Contradicts. The 6.3 million figure from the most recent USDA-based dashboard falls short of "nearly 7 million" by roughly 10%, and PolitiFact's ~7 million figure was a January 2026 estimate that it said was likely overstated.[2][3]

Supports. FRAC's SNAP dashboard, citing USDA data, says there were about 6.3 million fewer SNAP participants in July 2026 than when Trump took office in January 2025.[2]

Supports. PolitiFact found that USDA figures show around 7 million fewer Americans on SNAP than when Trump entered the White House, though it called the data flawed and said the real number was likely somewhat lower.[3]

Context. Other sources measure different periods: AP reports nearly 4.3 million fewer from January 2025 to January 2026, and IBTimes reports 5.1 million fewer from July 2025 to June 2026, while CBPP reports 5.5 million fewer since the July 2025 law was enacted.[1][4][5]
