The record supports a reading of the claim: US prescription drug prices fell 3.1% year over year in July 2026, the steepest annual drop since 1963 (AP, Inquirer, BLS data).

What was said

… We have a secure border. We've not released a single illegal alien into the country in 16 straight months. We have more jobs, more opportunity. We created a million private sector jobs in the last 19 months in this country, and the success goes on and on. Lowest prescription drug prices in 60 years. That's because we did what we said we were going to do, and you have to keep those common sense principles and policies going because we have much more to do ahead of us. Man, that Hormel hash thing set the chat on fire. …

What we found

Contradicts. The sources describe the size of a one-year price decline, not a price level. None states that current prescription drug prices are the lowest in 60 years, so the literal 'lowest level' reading is not supported.[1][4][5]

Supports. BLS Consumer Price Index data, as reported by AP and the Inquirer, show prescription drug prices fell 3.1% over the 12 months ending in July 2026, the steepest annual decline since March 1963.[1][4][6]

Context. The White House and Rep. Mike Johnson used 'lowest levels in 60 years' wording, but these are political statements by the claimants and do not independently verify the level claim.[3][7]

Context. Experts attribute the decline to several factors, including Medicare drug price negotiation under the Inflation Reduction Act, generic and biosimilar competition, and PBM reform, and FactCheck.org found no evidence Americans pay the lowest drug prices in the world.[1][2][6][8]
