Achilles for Idaho | U.S. Senate 2026@Achilles4IdahoOct 11, 2026The claim's figure of more than 850 is close to the Pentagon's reported wounded total (865 as of Oct 10, 2026, per sources [3] and [9]), but every source counts all wounded troops, not those permanently injured. No source reports a permanent-injury count, so the central 'permanently injured' assertion is not addressed.
This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.
What we found
Context. The Pentagon's official count reported 865 U.S. troops wounded, up 98 since August, as of its October 10, 2026 update.[2][5]
Context. An earlier Pentagon-based tally reported 861 wounded as of September 25, 2026, so the wounded total exceeded 850 by around the claim's date.[3]
Context. Sources use 'wounded' for the total and do not break out how many of those injuries are permanent, so the claim's qualifier 'permanently injured' is neither confirmed nor refuted.[2][3][4][5]
Context. The CRS figure of 824 wounded as of September 15, 2026 is consistent with the rising trend but likewise does not address permanence.[1]
