… And: The European Union is planning tariffs on Canadian steel even as Ottawa and Brussels pursue closer economic ties. Plus: Illegal cannabis from Canada floods Europe, doubts about election integrity are being fanned by Trump supporters ahead of the U.S. midterms, and Quebec is the latest province to consider abandoning daylight saving time.

Multiple sources (EUDA, Europol, Belgian customs reporting via CBC and Brussels Times, and the Telegraph investigation) document illegal cannabis of Canadian origin being smuggled into Europe, notably through Antwerp and Rotterdam, with about 21 tonnes seized in 2025. The claim's core assertion holds as of 2026-10-28; the extraction's 'floods' wording is rhetorical and the core export fact is confirmed.

What we found

Supports. The EU Drugs Agency reports increasing amounts of herbal cannabis trafficked from Canada to Europe, concealed in maritime containers, with around 21 tonnes intercepted in each of Rotterdam and Antwerp in 2025, mostly of Canadian origin.[1]

Supports. Europol highlights a sharp rise in cannabis smuggling from North America into Europe and has set up a dedicated Operational Taskforce to dismantle the networks involved.[2]

Supports. CBC News reports that Belgian customs seized a record 21 tonnes of Canadian cannabis at Antwerp in 2025, exceeding illegal exports from every other country.[3]

Supports. Brussels Times, citing a Telegraph investigation, reports Canadian cannabis being shipped in containers from Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax and Saint John to Antwerp.[4][5]

Context. Some reports (Telegraph) attribute the smuggling to criminal networks exploiting Canada's legal oversupply; the Telegraph figure of 32 tonnes total is a different measure from the 21 tonnes of Canadian origin.[4][5]
