Independent trade data supports the claim's direction and rough magnitude: Statistics Canada reports motor vehicle and parts exports fell 13% from March 2025 to July 2026, and U.S. Census data show U.S. vehicle and parts imports from Canada fell more than 34%.

A played clip makes this claim. Listeners heard it, so it counts against the post.

… auto plant in the world, and for decades there's been no greater symbol of how closely the Canadian and American economies have been intertwined than the automobile. The average car is built from parts that travel across our border up to eight times, but in the past year, 18 months, Canada's auto exports to us have declined by more than 10%. U.S. Exports to Canada have fallen by over 20%, even though Canada is still far and away the United States' largest customer. Nobody wins from this. …

What we found

Supports. Statistics Canada data cited by AutoService World show Canadian motor vehicle and parts exports fell 13% over the 17 months from March 2025 to July 2026, consistent with a decline of more than 10%.[2]

Supports. U.S. Census data cited in the same report show U.S. vehicle and parts imports from Canada fell more than 34% over the same period, a steeper decline that is consistent with the claim.[2]

Supports. Castanet reports Canada-U.S. motor vehicles and parts trade fell 18.9% between Q1 2024 and Q1 2026, pointing the same direction over a longer span.[3]

Context. The AP, Yahoo and Euronews articles attribute the "more than 10%" figure to Carney's statement, so they repeat the claim rather than independently corroborate it.[1][4][5]

Context. The figures cover motor vehicles and parts combined, not finished autos alone, and the claim's 18-month window is a close match to the 17-month StatCan period, so the scope is slightly broader than the claim.[2]
