What we found

Context. The CBC report (published 2026-10-28, the day of the post) attributes to Global Affairs Canada an assessment that Canadian exposure 'appears modest' and that about $2.8 billion in annual goods are exposed to the levy.[1]

Context. A Fastmarkets analysis of the EU steel border reports that costs for importers of EAF steel rise by about 5% on average once CBAM is included, a different measure from a 10% rise in Canadian steel prices.[2]

Context. A newsminimalist article dated 2026-10-28 says the tariff could add over 10 percent to Canadian steel costs by 2034, but it appears to repeat the CBC reporting rather than provide an independent estimate.[3]

Context. The RMI analysis expects CBAM and ETS to raise steel prices in coming years, but it gives no 10% figure for Canadian steel.[4]
