The sources document Massachusetts spending on migrant shelters, with about $1.3 billion spent from FY2024 through early 2025 and estimates of roughly $1 billion a year. None of them gives a $4 billion total or covers the hotels, Ubers, doctors, interpreters and meals the post lists, and the sources describe migrants rather than illegal aliens.

What was said

… day, ICE posts mug shots of the criminals they're rounding up and getting out, and every day Democrats vow to abolish ICE, prosecute ICE, arrest ICE for catching violent criminals who don't belong here. 400,000 illegal aliens made their way to Massachusetts. What we found

Contradicts. The documented shelter spending total of about $1.3 billion through early 2025 is well below the claimed $4 billion, but the sources are dated and cover only shelters, so they do not establish the total for the period the claim addresses.[3]

Supports. Massachusetts has spent substantial state money on migrant shelter housing, including more than $1.3 billion on emergency assistance shelters since the start of FY2024 as of March 2025.[3]

Context. Healey said in 2023 that migrant support was costing the state $45 million a month, and the administration estimated shelter costs near $1 billion a year for FY2024 and FY2025.[1][4][5]

Context. The sources describe migrants and asylum-seekers in general, not illegal aliens, and do not address the claimed spending on hotels, transportation, medical care, interpreters or meals.[2][6][7]
