The claim's support depends on the year and measure. In 2024, Texas had the highest net domestic migration gain (USAFacts) and about 556,000 people moved in from other states, but the sources don't explicitly rank Texas first on gross in-movers.

What was said

… I mean, I mean, I like, I'm walking through the hallways, I'm like, whoa, everyone here is from California. That's going to change your mind and help educate all these folks, so, yeah, there are a lot of people who move from California. Texas leads with more people moving to our state from other states than any other state, and more people come from California than any other state. However, what people don't know, there are people who move away from Texas every year. What we found

Contradicts. For 2025, the Texas Tribune reports Texas had 67,299 newcomers from other states, behind North Carolina's 84,064, so North Carolina led in domestic in-migration that year.[2]

Supports. USAFacts reports that in 2024 Texas ranked highest among states in total domestic net migration, with a gain of about 72,700 residents, and that about 556,200 people moved in from elsewhere in the US.[3][4]

Context. Texas led all states in total population growth in 2025 (391,243 residents), but that figure includes international immigration and natural increase, so it does not measure interstate in-movers.[1][5]

Context. The Texas Relocation Report says Texas had the second-highest share of state-to-state movers (7.8%) behind Florida (8%), which is a percentage measure rather than a count.[4]
