The White House transcript of Melania Trump's April 9, 2026 statement records her saying, "I have never been friends with Epstein," and Reuters and CNN report the same. The claim is about what she stated, so the verdict rests on the attributed statement. The extracted claim matches the passage's wording and does not overstate it.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What we found

Supports. The White House's published transcript of the April 9, 2026 statement quotes Melania Trump saying, "I have never been friends with Epstein."[3]

Supports. Reuters reports that Melania Trump denied any relationship with Epstein in her April 9, 2026 remarks, and CNN reports that she said she had never been friends with Epstein but had sometimes encountered him in social circles.[1][4]

Context. Her statement also said she and her husband were invited to some of the same parties as Epstein and that she had a casual email exchange with Ghislaine Maxwell. These details qualify the denial of friendship but do not contradict it.[3][4]

Context. A later Judiciary Democrats report and PolitiFact's fact-check discuss Epstein's ties to Donald Trump and allegations about the couple. They do not show that Melania Trump failed to make the statement, so they do not bear on whether she said it.[2][5]
