Multiple independent sources (IANS, ANI, Yahoo, AFP, NBC, Politico) report that the White House Correspondents' Association publicly condemned Trump's September 2026 ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico as a First Amendment violation, and the WHCA later joined an amicus brief against it.

What we found

Supports. WHCA President Jacqui Heinrich issued a statement calling the ban a 'ban on the free press' and saying it violates the First Amendment, reported by ANI and IANS on September 19–20, 2026.[5][6]

Supports. The WHCA's statement, as reported by Yahoo and AFP, called the move a constitutional breach and said courts have held access cannot be denied arbitrarily or based on content.[7][8]

Supports. NBC News reports the WHCA called for reporters' access to be restored after the ban, and Politico reports the WHCA signed an amicus brief calling the ban 'constitutionally repugnant.'[3][4]

Context. The ban was announced September 18, 2026 and enforced September 19; the later court filings (October 2026) show the access restrictions were still disputed, which does not change the September 19 condemnation.[1][2]
