The claim is ambiguous: the Nazi Party's name included 'Socialist' and some sources note it used socialist rhetoric to attract workers, but the authoritative sources (PolitiFact, Full Fact, Snopes, Britannica, Holocaust Encyclopedia) consistently find the party was not socialist in any meaningful sense.

What was said

… And hell yeah, I said that on purpose, because you know what happens when anti-cism, anti-semitism meets socialism. Yeah, National Soviet, Socialist, German Workers Party, there you go. That's what the Democrat Socialists of America is all about Carbon copy, carbon copy, the Hitler was not ultra right, he was a socialist, that's what he did, socialized medicine, disarm the populace, hate the Jews, that's what it was all about, and you've got a repeated history that America is rejecting, by the way Americans are rejecting it. …

What we found

Contradicts. PolitiFact, Full Fact and Snopes all conclude that the Nazis were not socialists in any meaningful sense, citing their racist nationalism, anti-Marxism and treatment of left-wing opponents.[1][2][3]

Contradicts. Historians quoted by Britannica and the ABC News piece say Hitler realigned the party as anti-socialist and pro-business, and the socialism in its name was a strategically chosen misnomer.[4][5]

Supports. The party's full name was the National Socialist German Workers' Party, and it used socialist rhetoric to attract working-class support, so the word 'socialist' does appear in its name and its early messaging.[3][4][6]

Context. The Holocaust Encyclopedia notes the Nazis opposed socialism and Marxism, and the claim's origin is a speaker's comparison to the Democratic Socialists of America, which the sources do not address.[6]
