The sources confirm Steve Scalise was shot on a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia (a Washington, DC suburb, not DC proper) by James Hodgkinson, who authorities reported was a Bernie Sanders supporter/volunteer; the claim's core is supported, but the location 'in Washington, DC' is literally inaccurate since the field was in Alexandria, Virginia, and the passage's 'nearly murdered' framing and.
A detail. The sources confirm the gist; the verdict faults a detail such as a date, number or wording.

… No, of course not. Who make up to about $160,000 a year. That's some relief. Well, that's uh uh honestly laughable. They have no plan at all. Here is a Steve Scalise. Contradicts. The shooting occurred at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia, not in Washington, DC, so the location element of the claim is contradicted by the sources.[1][3][4]
Supports. Multiple tier1 sources (AP, BBC, PolitiFact) confirm House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot on June 14, 2017 at a congressional baseball practice field.[1][2][3]
Supports. Authorities reported the shooter, James Hodgkinson, was a supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Sanders said the gunman had volunteered for his campaign.[2][3][5]
Context. Sources describe the shooting as wounding Scalise and others rather than a murder attempt on him specifically, and the event is dated 2017, not 'years ago' in an unspecified sense.[4][6][7]
