The claim that about 5% of the population in Gaza and Jerusalem are Christians is contradicted by the sources.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What was said

… Uhm, those people see everything from the Israeli point of view and sometimes don't realize just how absurd that is. They also don't realize that, uhm, these areas contain maybe 5% Christians, and certainly they do in, in Jerusalem, uh, Orthodox, you know, Marianite. They just think that they're just one big mass, and that's what comes down to dehumanization. It's like how the regime destroyed American farming by calling them rednecks and hicks: complete, utter dehumanization. And it makes it easier to control them. …

What we found

Contradicts. The U.S. State Department reports about 1,300 Christians in Gaza, and AP cites the same figure, far below 5% of Gaza's population of roughly 2 million.[1][3]

Contradicts. Reuters reports around 1,000 mostly Greek Orthodox Christians among nearly 2 million Muslims in Gaza, a share well under 1%.[2]

Contradicts. Embrace Me puts Gaza's pre-October 2023 Christian population at about 1,000, or 0.05% of the population, and the State Department reports about 14,000 Christians in Jerusalem out of 882,652 residents, roughly 1.6%.[3][4]

Context. Fides reports the Christian share of the Palestinian territories as a whole fell from 2% to 1%, and that Jerusalem's baptized Christians number about 5,000, which does not support a 5% share for Gaza and Jerusalem combined.[5]

Context. The claimant's passage says 'maybe 5% Christians' and the extraction's Gaza-and-Jerusalem scope is resolved from 'these areas' and 'in Jerusalem' in the post. The sources show the figure is wrong for either area, so no fidelity issue changes the verdict.
