NPR reported on 2026-10-21 that Adams County, Colorado (Democratic clerk Josh Zygielbaum) received a DOJ monitoring notification while the Republican clerk in neighboring Weld County did not, and Rawstory and KPBS carried the same account.

What was said

… One is that their voters are freaked out right now by the very idea of the Trump DOJ being around their voting locations, but two, I talked to one Democratic clerk in Colorado who noted that the Republican clerk in the neighboring county, and they both share voters in this toss-up congressional district in Colorado, did not receive a monitoring notification. What we found

Supports. NPR reported that Adams County, Colorado received a DOJ notification, and Democratic clerk Josh Zygielbaum said he was surprised the DOJ contacted him but not the Republican clerk in neighboring Weld County.[1][3]

Supports. Rawstory republished the NPR account, quoting Zygielbaum that he was surprised the DOJ contacted him but not the Republican clerk in Weld County, which also covers a large share of the toss-up 8th Congressional District.[2]

Supports. A Yahoo/9NEWS report dated 2026-10-26 states the DOJ is not sending observers to Weld County, which is also in the district, confirming the non-notification side of the comparison.[4]

Context. The DOJ said Adams County was chosen because it falls under Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act for Spanish-language materials, and a Sacramento Bee report says Douglas County was also notified, which does not change the Weld comparison.[2][5][6]
