The White House fact sheet and a joint State and War press release both describe a deal with Venezuela-linked oil producer NABEP, and the Department of War's Office of Strategic Capital is set to take a 35% stake in NABEP's parent company. The claim matches the passage's wording, and the deal was in place on 2026-09-15.
This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

… Corporations? I have no knowledge of that. Okay, because President Trump said on July 27th, "We've paid for that war many times over. We're taking in a lot of money, billions and billions of dollars, from Venezuela." Who is the "we" that he is referring to? I think President Trump may have been referring to the oil deal that the Department of War has done with Venezuela, but he seemed to imply that we, the United States people, are taking in money to offset those costs. Supports. The White House fact sheet (Aug 31, 2026) says the deal was signed by Secretary of State Rubio and Secretary of War Hegseth and grants the U.S. government governance rights and economic ownership in a Venezuelan oil company.[2]
Supports. A joint State and War press release (Sept 1, 2026) announces that the Departments of State and War reached a deal with NABEP, including a 35% U.S. government equity stake and preferential access to 20% of production.[3]
Supports. FDD analysis reports that the Department of War's Office of Strategic Capital will receive rights to a 35% stake in NABEP's corporate parent under the agreement with Venezuela.[4]
Supports. A later NABEP release (Oct 27, 2026) describes the deal as an existing agreement with the U.S. Departments of State and War, with the first oil shipment already delivered.[1]
Context. Some outlets dispute the deal's scale and terms, such as the claimed 65 billion barrels and the 'zero cost' framing, and raise legal questions. These disputes concern the deal's characterization, not whether a Department of War deal exists.[5][6][7]
