The sources show that as of September 2026 the SPR was at its lowest level since the early 1980s and that refilling it with Venezuelan oil was expected to take years, which makes the post's 'it's not happening' plausible.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What we found

Context. PolitiFact (Sept 4, 2026) reports the SPR was at its lowest level since the early 1980s, about 26% below its level when Trump took office, and that the reserve had only gone down since the last check.[1]

Context. CBS News (Sept 1, 2026) reports that the Venezuelan oil would need conversion and that experts said the SPR could be reached only years away, at least two years or five to seven years at best.[3]

Context. The Miami Herald (Aug 31, 2026) reports that a full SPR replenishment 'could take years' and that the SPR loan repayment would not be completed until late 2028.[5]

Context. Reuters (Oct 30, 2026) and CNN (Oct 29, 2026) are published after the claim date and describe later deliveries, so they do not establish the state of affairs on 2026-09-15.[2][4]

Context. The claim's characterization that Trump 'is lying' is an accusation of intent, which none of the sources addresses. Grading it is not possible from these sources, so the verdict is unverifiable.
