The claim's central superlative, that strawberries are the single most effective fruit for removing mercury from the digestive tract, is not supported by any authoritative source.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What was said

… I'm just telling you from heavy metals. And if you're going to stock up on, let's say, frozen fish, you need to also have freeze-dried strawberries to sweep the mercury out of your system that you're going to get from the fish. Remember, there's no fruit better at sweeping mercury through your digestive tract than strawberries. But all fruits, all fruits help tremendously. Any kind of freeze-dried fruit will help you eliminate heavy metals in your diet. That's why it's important to have fruits with your other storable food. …

What we found

Contradicts. A peer-reviewed in vitro study ranks the strongest dietary binders of mercury as lignin, tannic acid, pectin and cellulose derivatives, none of which is strawberries; strawberries are not identified as the most effective option.[1]

Contradicts. Authoritative mercury references (Medscape, UK government toxicology overview, Southern Nevada Health District) describe GI mercury removal through activated charcoal, chelators and elimination in feces and urine, and do not identify any fruit as the most effective eliminator; Medscape mentions strawberries only as a selenium-rich food.[2][3][4]

Supports. The only direct support for 'strawberries are the most effective' comes from Mike Adams' own video and a 2021 review of his book, which repeats his claim; this is the claimant's own material and not independent corroboration.[5][6]

Context. A 2026 guidance page lists berries and apples as pectin-rich fruits that help trap toxins in the gut, without ranking strawberries above other fruits, and a 2016 Chinese article lists strawberries among many foods said to aid detox without ranking them first.[7][8]
