Multiple outlets, including CNN's KFile (via HuffPost, tier2) and The Reload, which reviewed the transcript of an April 2023 YouTube video, report El-Sayed saying the Second Amendment's right to bear arms should be replaced with a right to health care.

What was said

… This was in The Reload, Alejandro O'Connell, Dominic, by August 14, 2026. Here is a quote by Al Sayed about the Second Amendment. Again, liberals, a quote meaning he said this, okay? Quote: "Al Sayed, Democrat gun grabber: What if we tweak the Constitution, amended the amendment, and instead of the right to bear arms, we change it to the right to have health care? I'm a gun owner. I'm i'm gonna vote Democrat because..." Fill in the blank. Why? I'm not being an ass. I'm just asking you. If you are a gun owner who cares, why? You explain it to me in the chat. What we found

Supports. CNN's KFile, as reported by HuffPost, says El-Sayed proposed in April 2023, after a school shooting, to 'instead of the right to bear arms, we change it to the right to have health care.'[1]

Supports. The Reload reports that El-Sayed suggested in a since-removed April 6, 2023 video that the right to keep and bear arms be swapped for a right to healthcare, quoting 'What if we tweaked the Constitution? Amended the amendment...'[2]

Supports. Later coverage cites the same video and quote and says the campaign did not directly answer whether he still supported replacing the Second Amendment, which indicates the proposal was not disputed.[3][4]

Context. The campaign has said the old comments do not reflect his beliefs today and that he respects the Second Amendment, and the remark was described as possibly aspirational; the sources do not show he currently backs the proposal.[1][5]
