The Pew-based sources show majority or high Muslim support for the death penalty for apostasy in some countries, with the highest reported figures at about 86-88% (Egypt), but none reports over 90%.

What was said

… You're talking about the people who are actively willing to go and wage jihad in a militaristic fashion, but there's other forms of jihad. And so, for instance, you know, some of these countries, 90 plus percent believe the following. They would say that if you are an apostate, you leave the religion of Islam, that you should be tried in court, you should get due process, but it should go before a sharia court, and the judge of the Sharia court should be able to find you guilty, and that the punishment for that should be death. What we found

Contradicts. The highest reported figures are about 86% (Egypt) and 88% (Egypt, per a Volokh summary), so no source reports the over-90% level the claim asserts.[1][2]

Supports. Pew's 2013 survey data show high support for executing apostates in several countries, including 79% in Afghanistan and 75-76% in Pakistan.[1][2]

Context. Support varies widely by country, from about 1% in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to the 80s in some Middle Eastern and South Asian countries, and Pew found lower support for executing apostates than for other sharia punishments.[2][3][4]

Context. The surveys measure Muslims' views, not the whole population, and the sources do not directly address the claim that apostates should be tried in a sharia court before a death sentence.[4][5]
