The only source that calls the Census Bureau's report 'propaganda' and says it is unlike any in the Bureau's history is the claimant's own newsletter (Platypus Economics), which cannot corroborate the claim.

What was said

… meant to be independent, meant to have a nonpartisan head, that has had a long and illustrious history of telling important truths, and that has been devoted to measuring the truth and reporting the truth without fear or favor and no partisanship whatsoever, when it shifts to releasing propaganda, which it just did for the first time in its history, that's a moment. That's why I was mad. That is really, really important for folks at home to understand. I have been defending official numbers. That job just got a lot harder. …

What we found

Contradicts. The Talking Points Memo piece calls the right-wing allegation about 2020 census miscounts 'baseless', which weighs against the claimant's broader case, but it does not address the 'propaganda' label or the 'first time in its history' framing.[3]

Context. The only source using the 'propaganda' framing and claiming the report is unlike any in the Bureau's history is the claimant's own newsletter, which is circular evidence and not independent corroboration.[4]

Context. Other Census coverage concerns disinformation aimed at the Census (2019 AP, Reuters, 2020 Fulcrum) rather than the Bureau itself producing propaganda, so it does not bear on the claim.[1][2][5]
