Five people were hospitalized in the Moscow Oblast after contact with a person presumably infected with monkeypox.

What we found

Supports. Multiple outlets report five people were hospitalized in Russia's Moscow region after contact with a person suspected of being infected with mpox.[1][2][3][5]

Supports. The agency confirmed five contacts were hospitalized and disinfection measures were ordered, with hospitalization described as preventive.[3][4]

Context. Reports date the event to October 15-16, 2026, and some sources describe the hospitalized as having no symptoms with tests pending; the claim's timeframe is not contradicted.[2][6][7]

Context. Several sources concern separate events (St. Petersburg cases, a 2026 Domodedovo confirmed case) and do not bear on the Moscow Oblast contact-hospitalization claim.[8][9][10]
