Multiple tier1 sources (Reuters, BBC, AP) report that Brazil's Supreme Court sentenced Jair Bolsonaro in September 2025 to 27 years and three months in prison for plotting a coup, and AP later reported in November 2025 that he began serving it. The claim's 27 years is the rounded figure of that sentence, and the post's wording matches the extraction.
What we found
Supports. Reuters and BBC both report that Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison after the Supreme Court convicted him of plotting a coup.[1][3]
Supports. AP reports that Bolsonaro began serving his 27-year prison sentence on a Tuesday in November 2025, confirming the sentence was imposed and enforced.[2]
Supports. Britannica and Vatican News independently report the same 27-year, three-month sentence imposed by the Supreme Court panel.[4][5]
Context. The sentence is 27 years and three months, so the claim's 27 years is a rounding of the exact term rather than a contradiction.[1][3]
