What we found
Supports. The Violence Policy Center reports that in 2024 Black residents were 58.3% of all homicide victims in Wisconsin (155 of 266), a figure close to the claimed 56%.[3]
Supports. Black residents were about 6.3% of Wisconsin's population, yet accounted for 64.3% of firearm homicide victims in 2024, showing the same disparity in the firearm subset.[3][4]
Context. A 2022 DCF presentation reports Black residents accounted for 75.5% of firearm homicide victims, which is a different measure and year than the claim.[1]
Context. The Wisconsin DHS dashboard covers homicide victims by race for 2015–2024 but its figures are not quoted in the sources, so it cannot settle the exact 56% figure.[2]
