El-Sayed holds an MD (doctor of medicine) from Columbia University and a DPhil in public health from Oxford, as PolitiFact, Bridge Michigan, Britannica and USA Today all report, so he is a doctor in the degree sense.
This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.
What we found
Supports. PolitiFact rates the claim on the basis that El-Sayed has a doctor of medicine (MD) degree from Columbia University plus a doctorate in public health from Oxford.[1]
Supports. Bridge Michigan's fact-check states that El-Sayed 'is a doctor with a doctor of medicine degree from Columbia University' and that the 'fake doctor' label is not accurate.[2]
Supports. Britannica, USA Today and WLNS each describe him as holding an M.D. from Columbia, with Britannica calling him a 'medical doctor'.[3][4][5]
Context. Politico and the Bloomberg-style critique in BND say he is not a licensed physician and never completed a residency, so he cannot legally practice or treat patients; this limits the 'physician' label but does not contradict 'doctor'.[6][7]
