The sources show DOGE's savings were small and that it did not reduce the deficit (Fortune, Reuters, Reason), but none measures or states that DOGE itself increased the deficit. The extracted claim also drops the post's word "massively" and the post's emphasis, which the sources' "modest impact" findings would contradict.

What we found

Contradicts. Reuters reports DOGE-targeted agencies trimmed spending by about $19 billion, roughly half of 1% of federal spending, which is a small effect rather than a massive one.[1]

Context. A DOGE employee deposition reported that the agency did not reduce the federal deficit, and a recent estimate found its savings did little, if anything, for the deficit.[5]

Context. Reason reports the budget deficit widened during Trump's first two years, but attributes this to overall spending rather than to DOGE specifically.[4]

Context. PolitiFact reports the FY2025 deficit was smaller than the prior year despite rising spending, and that DOGE's own savings figure is unreliable.[2]

Context. Harvard HKS experts argue that efficiency gains could not have a marked effect on federal deficits in either direction, given the size of the gap between spending and revenue.[3]
