Sources support the claim's scale on some measures but not others: Stateline (Jan 2026) reports more than 1 million TPS holders terminated and 1.5 million losing temporary status, and The New Yorker (Aug 2026) says more than a million immigrants lost protections.

A detail. The sources confirm the gist; the verdict faults a detail such as a date, number or wording.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What was said

… So, of course, people are going to be i mean, U.S. Citizens are going to be victims of crimes who wouldn't have otherwise been because of this insane misallocation of law enforcement resources. And, like you said, Catherine, by delegalizing people, by taking over a million people who thought they had protections and removing those protections, whether that's Temporary Protected Status or the attacks on DACA, or, you know, sending people who are waiting in line the right way for asylum protections, no, you're deportable now. People who are married to U.S. …

What we found

Contradicts. Reuters (April 2026) describes Trump as having stripped legal status from 'hundreds of thousands' of legal immigrants, a lower magnitude than the claim's 'over one million.'[1]

Contradicts. FWD's fact sheet estimates about 502,000 people had lost status by the end of 2025, with 2.2 million projected by end-2026; that projection is not a measured count.[2]

Supports. Stateline (republished by Santa Barbara News-Press, Jan 2026) reports the Trump administration terminated Temporary Protected Status for more than 1 million immigrants, and that more than 1.5 million have lost or will lose temporary legal status.[4]

Supports. The New Yorker (Aug 10, 2026), dated before the claim, describes more than a million immigrants seeing protections swept away, including the Supreme Court's June 2026 ruling allowing TPS terminations to proceed.[5]

Supports. NPR (Dec 2025) reports 1.6 million immigrants lost legal right to stay in the U.S. in 2025 across parole, visa, asylum and TPS programs, though advocates say this is likely an undercount.[3]

Context. Several TPS terminations have been blocked or are under legal challenge, and USCIS's 2.2 million enforcement-action figure does not necessarily mean people have lost status, so the number of people who actually lost protections is contested.[1][6][7]
