As of 2026-08-21 the 10-year Treasury yield was about 4.7%, and sources say it did not breach 5% until September 15, so 'consistently around or above 5%' is contradicted for the benchmark 10-year.

What we found

Contradicts. The AP report for August 21, 2026 puts the 10-year Treasury yield at 4.73%, and Greystone's August commentary gives a trading range of 4.63% to 4.75%.[1][2]

Contradicts. A later report says the September 15 move to 5.01% was the first time the 10-year breached 5% since 2023, so it was not consistently at or above 5% before then.[3]

Supports. The 30-year Treasury yield was about 5.24% at the end of August and touched 5.31% in 2026, levels consistent with 'around or above 5%' for the long bond.[4][5]

Context. The J.P. Morgan commentary notes the 10-year has spent under 10% of the time above 5% this century, underscoring that the 10-year was not consistently at 5%.[6]
