The Department of Homeland Security has a budget of one billion dollars.

What we found

Contradicts. Reuters (Jan 2026) reports the House passed a $64.4 billion FY2026 DHS appropriations bill, roughly 64 times the claimed figure.[1]

Contradicts. The DHS FY2026 Budget in Brief lists a President's budget request of $115.6 billion, with $63.6 billion in adjusted net discretionary funding.[2]

Contradicts. The House committee report for the FY2026 DHS appropriations bill recommends $99.1 billion in total discretionary appropriations for DHS.[3]

Context. The GovInfo FY2026 budget appendix confirms the DHS budget is a major federal budget entry, but it gives no figure that supports a one-billion-dollar total.[4]

Context. The post's own sentence ('DHS has a billion dollars') is a loose reference to DHS funding; the extracted claim matches it faithfully, so it is graded as stated. The sources do not show any single DHS budget line near one billion dollars that would make the claim a fair reading.
