As of 2026-08-17, Eric Swalwell was not a member of the House Intelligence Committee. House Speaker McCarthy removed him from the panel in January 2023, and he announced his resignation from Congress in April 2026, so the claim's present-tense assertion is contradicted.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

… How could this have gone on for so long? I mean, clearly he was getting honey-potted, but that's, that was a story forever, but now it's so much worse. Ministry of State Security, they tried to flip her, but the bottom line is, she's a Chinese spy. What we found

Contradicts. Reuters reported that McCarthy officially dismissed Swalwell from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in January 2023, after he had been a long-time member.[1]

Contradicts. CNN reported in April 2026 that Swalwell planned to resign from Congress, and that McCarthy had denied him seats on the intelligence panel in 2023.[5]

Contradicts. Wikipedia's entry (not a primary source) gives his House service as ending April 14, 2026, and the Boston Globe in October 2026 calls him an 'ex-Representative' who was removed from the Intelligence Committee in 2023.[6][7]

Context. Sources describing Swalwell as an Intelligence Committee member (2019 to 2020 and earlier) predate his 2023 removal and do not bear on the August 2026 claim.[3][4][8][9]

Context. The AP (2023) reported Jeffries nominated Swalwell for reappointment, and McCarthy's rejection of that nomination is the basis for his removal.[2]
