Episode 5595: Sending Aerospace Secrets To China; AI Agents Alarmed Over Research

53 claimsThe check →

The sources document ongoing transfers of aerospace and defense technology to China, most directly a NASA OIG case (April 2026) in which a Chinese national impersonated U.S. engineers to obtain sensitive defense-related software for years, and an ITIF analysis of Chinese economic espionage targeting defense technology.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What we found

Supports. A NASA OIG investigation exposed a Chinese national who, for years, obtained sensitive NASA software usable for aerospace design and weapons development by impersonating U.S. engineers, with NASA staff emailing defense technology to that person.[2]

Supports. ITIF's 2025 analysis describes China's campaign of economic espionage against the U.S. as spanning cyber intrusions, insider theft and technology transfer, with programs like Thousand Talents turning U.S. engineers into conduits for trade secrets targeting defense technologies.[3]

Supports. Prosecutors in Belgium suspect a former senior employee of a gallium nitride chipmaker of illegally transferring trade secrets to a Chinese company, with the chips used in aerospace and military applications; this is a suspicion, and the report is dated after the claim.[1]

Context. A 2023 DOJ case involved a former GE Power employee who sent turbine-related aerospace secrets to China, showing a pattern of earlier cases.[4][5]

Context. A May 2026 Chinese state media report about a jailed engineer who sent aerospace secrets to foreign spies concerns the reverse direction and does not bear on whether secrets flow to China.[6]
