Federal authorities arrested James Brass on Skid Row-linked charges in September 2026 (before the 2026-09-16 post), and the DOJ and other reports describe Skid Row voter-registration-related arrests and charges.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What we found

Supports. A DOJ release dated September 14, 2026 reports an individual in California was arrested and two others charged for paying people on Skid Row to sign petitions using stolen identities of registered voters.[1]

Supports. Courthouse News and Fox reported that James Brass was arrested Thursday, September 10, 2026, and charged with identity fraud tied to paying Skid Row residents, before the post date.[3][4]

Supports. The Hill op-ed reports that a Marina del Rey petition circulator was charged with paying someone to register to vote and agreed to plead guilty, with prosecutors saying she gave homeless registrants her former address.[2]

Context. The Brass arrests concerned petition signatures using stolen voter identities rather than voter registration forms as such, so the claim's wording is a loose paraphrase of the underlying conduct.[1][3]
