Sources support that Tim Meisburger is a long-serving overseas elections specialist, but they place his career at USAID, the Asia Foundation, the UN and OSCE rather than the State Department, which contradicts the claimed 30 years at State. The 55-country figure appears only in Patrick Byrne's post, which repeats the claim and is not independent corroboration.

What was said

… So I stayed busy up and on that stuff up until about six months ago. For the rest of us, what we need ultimately to get to there's a wonderful guy named Tim Meisberger, who's the most knowledgeable guy in the world on this. Tim Meisberger is a rare State Department Republican. He spent 30 years, 23 of them abroad, running elections in 55 countries like Burma that were having their first election. And so, he's they have a situation much like ours. You got these warm tribes; nobody trusts each other. So you have to do two things: you have to have an election that's fair, and that afterwards everyone agrees is fair. …

What we found

Contradicts. A USAID-affiliated biography lists his career as the Asia Foundation from 1997 to 2017, preceded by work for the UN, OSCE and as a consultant, with no State Department employment mentioned.[1]

Contradicts. A 2022 press release describes him as Director of Election Integrity for The America Project and as appointed to lead USAID's Democracy, Rights and Governance office, not a State Department post.[2]

Supports. Multiple bios describe decades of international election and democracy work in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe, including programs in many Asian countries, which supports the overseas elections element.[1][2][3]

Context. The only source that calls him a State Department figure and cites 55 countries over 30 years is Patrick Byrne's post, which echoes the claim and cannot corroborate it.[4]

Context. A commentary site describes him as having been in the Asia Foundation and USAID, and a Heritage Foundation profile lists him only as a visiting fellow, so neither confirms a State Department career.[5][6]
