As of 2026-09-19, U.S. diesel prices were at an all-time high. Reuters and NBC reported records on Sept. 11, J.P. Morgan cited an AAA record of $6.23 on Sept. 14, and Cleveland.com reported a record $6.39 on Sept. 17, with later sources showing the peak came around Sept. 21-22 at about $6.52-$6.53.

This claim is about the present, so it is judged as of the day it was checked.

What we found

Supports. Reuters and NBC reported on Sept. 11, 2026 that the U.S. national average diesel price hit a record high, passing $6 a gallon for the first time.[1][2]

Supports. J.P. Morgan, citing AAA, reported a record average diesel price of $6.23 per gallon on Sept. 14, and Cleveland.com reported another record of $6.39 on Sept. 17, both before the claim date.[3][4]
