Multiple sources, including Reuters and AP (both tier1), confirm that Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White each publicly declared their intention to enter the 2027 WNBA draft in August 2026. The league later ruled both ineligible, but that does not contradict the claim that they declared their intention; the extraction faithfully matches the passage.

What we found

Supports. Reuters reports that both former NBA players 'had each announced their intention to play in the league' and sought to enter the 2027 WNBA draft.[1]

Supports. AP reports that Kanter Freedom and White 'declared themselves eligible for the WNBA draft, saying they identify as women.'[2]

Supports. Multiple outlets from August 8 onward quote Kanter Freedom's X announcement that he was 'officially declaring myself a WNBA prospect' and White's statement that he would be declaring for the 2027 draft.[3][4][5]

Context. The WNBA has said both men are ineligible, with Commissioner Engelbert's October 16 letter stating they are 'both men,' but this concerns eligibility, not whether the declarations were made.[2][6]
